Description
Governess/Teacher is needed for a busy couple with two girls and a teenage son with some mental health challenges. The Governess will only be working with the teenage boy, as he will be taking all of his high school courses online. Start date is not until February 2022 but the family would like to find someone as early as December 2021 who can commit to starting in February.
Ideal candidates are those who have experience in working with children or teenagers with learning disabilities or mental health challenges who have a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree. Previous teaching and tutoring experience is a plus but the most important thing is finding a candidate who can connect with the teenager, inspire him to get his work done and of course be able to help him patiently.
This position can be either full-time for one person, or part-time for two people. Hours are TBD based on if this position will be split in two PT positions or just one. In addition to helping the teenager with his schoolwork, the Governess will also be responsible for driving him to his therapy and doctor appointments.
One of the most important qualities in a candidate is someone who is emotionally strong and can remain cool when the teenager may need some extra help in calming down and concentrating etc. This position is perfect for someone who is very confident in his or her ability to work with kids who need a little extra help. Those who have experience in practicing or teaching mindfulness or meditation would be great!
The main duties and responsibilities of the Governess are as follows:
- Overseeing the teen’s daily schoolwork
- Driving the teenager to his appointments
- Organizing the teen’s school and daily schedule
- Helping the teenager relax and concentrate on his work
- Connecting with the teen on his level
- Managing the teen’s school goals etc.
Candidates must be COVID-19 vaccinated, smart, self-starters that do not need to be told what to do once they’re familiar with their role. The Governess must pay attention to detail and be able to follow schoolwork instructions and keep the parents updated as needed.
Ideal candidates will have over 5 years of experience with 2+ years tenure in a current or previous position is preferred.
